Jonna Doolittle-Hoppes/Spirit of '45 Event

Aug 12, 2017 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

April of 2017 marked the 75th Anniversary of the Doolittle Raid. While most people are familiar with the Doolittle Raid, many are unaware of the Oregon connection.  The crews that flew on the Raid were part of the 17th Bombardment Group, based in Pendleton, giving Oregon Aviation a unique connection to this important event.

Ms. Hoppes is an author and journalist and her first book, Calculated Risk: The Extraordinary Life of Jimmy Doolittle¸ is a memoir of her famous grandfather, aviator Jimmy Doolittle, and his equally extraordinary wife, Joe. Ms. Hoppes represents the Doolittle family at air shows across the country and is a popular speaker at libraries and air museums. Her articles have appeared in Smithsonian's Air and Space magazine, as well as other publications. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa, Idaho. She also works as a civilian for the U.S. Air Force and lives in Southern California.

Our visit with Jonna Doolittle-Hoppes is graciously arranged through our partnership with the Spirit of ’45, an organization dedicated to commemorating the achievements and virtues of the World War II generation. Annually the second Sunday of August marks the national celebration of “Spirit of ’45 Day” and this year the Museum will be hosting events prior to the Sunday event at Willamette National Cemetery featuring a presentation by Jonna Doolittle-Hoppes.

Museum Event Schedule:

11-12:30PM Public Presentation (Museum Theater)
