SUMMARY:Film Screening: Samurai in the Oregon Sky
DESCRIPTION:80 Year Anniversary of the end of WWII – As part of our Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the end of WWII\, we have arranged for ILana Sol to screen her award-winning ‘Samurai in the Oregon Sky‘\, a documentary about the Japanese Fire Bombings in Southern Oregon. \nFilm Summary: In 1942\, Japanese pilot Nobuo Fujita catapulted his seaplane off of a submarine\, flew over the forests of southern Oregon\, and conducted the only manned aerial bombings of the United States mainland during WWII. He never dreamed he would one day be invited back to the region\, where he would begin a 35-year friendship with the people of a small Oregon town. Samurai in the Oregon Sky tells the story of how Mr. Fujita came to refer to his former target as his “second home.” \nJoin us at the Aerodrome Theater on Saturday August 30th at 3:00PM. Filmmaker Ilana Sol will host the screening and answer your questions. \nAdmissions Fee: \n\nOnline Pre-Purchase price is $5.72 per person (includes online ticketing fees).\n“Day-Of” pricing is $10 per person.\nKids under 10 are free.\nEvergreen Aviation & Space Museum Members are FREE.\n\nPRE-PURCHASE TICKETS HERE

SUMMARY:Carlton Observatory "Star Talk"
DESCRIPTION:Star Talk: Wormholes\, Spacewarps\, and Tunnels to Otherwheres\nShane L. Larson\nClarkson University \nOur partners at Carlton Observatory are offering a “mind-blowing” Star Talk with Shane Larson\, where he’ll guide you on a journey through the wonders of the universe! \nThe advent of general relativity transformed our understanding of gravity and introduced us to the idea that the underlying fabric of the Universe is a tapestry we call “spacetime.” That fabric is a dynamic entity\, constantly evolving and changing. It can be bent\, twisted\, warped\, and perhaps ripped. \nIn the hundred years that we have been aware of spacetime\, our understanding of it has been informed by astronomical observations\, detailed mathematical calculations\, vast computer simulations\, and wild speculation. Some ideas and predictions\, though exotic\, have been found to be wholly true; others we are skeptical of\, but cannot disprove; of others we still have no idea what to think. \nIn this talk\, we’ll discuss the nature of spacetime and our measurements of it\, and examine some of the most remarkable predictions we have made about it: black holes\, gravitational waves\, cosmological expansion\, wormholes\, and time warps. \nPrice: $10 for Guests 16 and over and kids under 16 are free. \nGET TICKETS
