VC-9 Air Force Two Opens for Tours

Mar 23, 2019 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Beginning Saturday, March 23, the Museum's VC-9 aircraft will open for tours.

This VC-9C, serial number 73-1682, transported America’s top leadership from 1975 until 2011. Much of that time it served as Air Force Two for Vice Presidents Walter Mondale, George H.W. Bush, Dan Quayle, Al Gore and Dick Cheney. Vice-presidents weren't the only passengers, however. First ladies (Rosalynn Carter, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush, Hillary R. Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama), presidential cabinet members and even presidents flew aboard this military variant of the popular McDonnell-Douglas DC-9 commercial airliner. When this aircraft was needed to transport presidents into smaller airports—Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush—it served as Air Force One.

Free aircraft tours will include a walk through the VIP area and cockpit, and viewing of authentic memorabilia. This will be one of the few presidential planes open for tours on the West Coast.

Cost: Free with Museum admission. Free for Museum Members. Donations accepted.
